Don't try to figure it out

Just when you have it all figured out, what happens? Often, the opposite does. You can spend a lot of time trying to analyze, but maybe it's not worth it. You learn what you can, but mostly, you have to accept the result. Then you can predict what happens next. But we all know what usually happens.

  1. This reminds me of the John Lennon quote, "life is what happens while you're busy making other plans." When it comes to business, some people plan so carefully that it renders them inflexible if things do not go exactly according to their blueprint. This is not an effective strategy for most new products, services, processes, etc. that are so important to keeping businesses moving forward. I do think it's important to have an idea of what your next step is going to be and make some goals to shoot for, but it is equally as important to deviate from that plan if life has other things lined up for you. Have you ever missed an opportunity because you were too concerned with the plan you had created for your marketing agency?

  2. I have missed opportunities at LaBov & Beyond because I felt they weren't in the best interest of the company, only to later, reconsider that decision. Often, it was because I felt they didn't fit the direction or the plan. I try to be more fluid in my decision-making now, allowing for different opportunities to be seriously considered. Thanks!

  3. As a fellow business owner in the Fort Wayne, IN area, I understand what you mean. I remember a teacher once told me, “Always ask questions; you'll never have all of the answers.” I find that as I get older, I discover I know less about some things. The key is to learn what you can and roll with the punches when things don't turn out a certain way. Great post!
